A lightning stroke me last night. I was looking for some tunes to chill and came across the Jazzanova radio show "Multikulti". I downloaded one of their shows and presses play. Boy did i get a surprise. The opening tune just blew me away. I spent 2 days and 2 nights constantly trying to find the name, the author, you know more info. Nothing, couldn't find it. You see since the radio show is from Germany they only speak german. Too bad for me. But then, after painful hours of searching i found it. I came across Blackjoy at Myspace. You can get some more info at is Space.
I know now that he's from France, Monsieur Jerome, and that this track, which i fell in love with, is from his new album called "Time". If you're into Funk and Chill out you will definitely love this one. I leave you with the opening track from his new album, and a tune that's already in my all time top ten favorites, "Flowers".
This one is a stormer. It's already playing on MTV, with huge sucess. The original song is from "The Zutons", and now "Mark Ronson" as released a cover version of the song with Amy Winehouse on the vocals. I'm not very keen on the original version, but this new one with Amy's voice is just fantastic. The cover sounds fresh and funky and you can hear it on MTV or in Mark Ronson's new album. Now, as i was killing time in YouTube i found an unplugged version of the song, with Amy leading the way. Five stars aren't good enough to describe the quality of this performance. So here it is, Amy Winehouse performing Valerie, unplugged. Enjoy.
Here's one of my all time favorites Mr. Marvin Gaye. Tragically shot by his own father in 1984, he is, in my own honest and modest opinion, the most influental artist of the soul music era ever. So many hits, so many babys were made at his music :D I don't like to speak a lot about these Music legends, everything has been written, i rather promote their music and let the music speak for themselves. I leave you with a live performance.
Apple's events are usually preceded by a lot of rumors and speculation. In 2006 they've held "It's Showtime" and this was no exception. Hundreds of rumors and speculation regarding the iphone, the iphone, the iphone. No it's not a mistake i've written it three times to enhance the iphone topic :D Too bad the fans had to wait a while longer for their demand. But, Apple's events are also known to have a performer in the end. That year Steve chose John Legend, and my i say what a pick. John performed "Save Room" from his new album "Once Again", and, the best of it all is that it was an unplugged performance. I was lucky enough to get hold of this track. I had found a similar performance on Youtube on a gig in Italy and loved it, but the sound quality was bad, so to come across this one with such quality it's just brilliant. I really hope you like it because i love. It's far better in my opinion than the original one.
I was watching the Casino DVD last night and boy did i got a surprise. In between the killing and the name calling i heard this version of Rolling Stones, "I can't get any Satisfaction", from Devo and i totally fell in love with. You probably know them better for the 80's hit "Whip It". It's a nice version and it feels like you're in a gangster movie.
Their Greatest Hits, released in 1990 is available at Amazon
2007 release of the passionate but suave Mod-Soul collaboration from the lovely and talented vocalist Nicole Willis and celebrated Finnish Funk collective The Soul Investigators. In the cold far North dance underground, they have created a uniquely hot record of romantic grooves! The Brooklyn-born Willis has worked with both Curtis Mayfield and the Brand New Heavies and done crucial work for Mo’ Wax, while the Finnish-bred Soul Investigators have crafted two previous full-lengths. Fans of Amy Winehouse and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings will find much to love on Keep Reachin’ Up. Adored by the UK’s Northern Soul DJs and fans, international momentum for the full-length has been primed by a BBC Top Ten Track of the Year list for 'If This Ain’t Love' and world famous DJ Gilles Peterson making opening track 'Feeling Free' the 2006 Worldwide Winner Song of the Year. MOJO and Record Collector gave the Finnish edition four stars and Dusty Groove called it an ''instant classic.'' Light In The Attic. Available in Amazon.
Now, i know that this blog is about tunes, but sometimes the great tunes come in a video shape :D You probably don't know it yet but i am a big Jamiroquai fan, for sometime now. And since a there's a HUGE release coming up late this month i have to bring this one up. What do you get when you combine the words Jamiroquaiand Montreux togheter?!? Brilliant perfomances. Every time they've played there it's been nothing shorter than magical. The amount of improvisation is stunnig and you can feel the groove on any note. The Montreux Jazz Festival is the best-known music festival in Switzerland. It is held annually in early July, for two weeks, on Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva, since 1967 organized by Claude Nobs. Some huge names have played there, Van Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Eric Clapton and many more. Also, sometimes, some bands/artists get their performances released on a cd or dvd, which is why i'm posting this one. This moth a DVD is being released from the 2003 Jamiroquai performance at the festival. It's a fantastic gig and i know you'll love it. So i leave you with a little taste of the soon to be released. The track is Soul Education and you'll see the leader and lead vocal, Jason Kay, at it's best. I'ts out on October 30th.
Rude! This has everything you could ever want in a big dance floor classic. Buckets full of soul with a disco flavour and instantly infectious vocals. The track is a really well produced string laden, chunky drum based, house groove, that has the Unabombers written all over it. With a cut up feel lurking in the background, this is one of those things that will appeal to everyone from 'proper' house heads through to the nu-disco lovers. It's out on Amazon now, go get it.
If you're into the Reggae feeling check this one out. A superb cover version from the people behind the Dynamics. It comes with two covers, Gloria Jones/Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" and "Night Fever" from the Bee Gee's, which i present here. It's huge and it doesn't disapoint. A must have for everyone.
Mr Fingers 'Can you feel it' is one of my all time favourite house tracks, it is an absolute classic! A simple but sublime moment of brilliance that still sounds fresh years later. Whoever though of putting the acapella from Amp Fiddler and Corrine Baily Rae's latest smash 'If I Don't' is a genius.
It works a treat and they have placed it over the track so that the changes come in at all the right places. This blew my head off on the first listen and gets better and better with each play. The kind of mash up that you will keep going back to for years to come. Awesome!
Get ready for a HOT soulful stunner! Japanese outfit Studio Apartment returns to King Street this time teaming up with massive NJ house producers Blaze (Josh Milan & Kevin Hedge) to create another mid-tempo soon-to-be dancefloor classic. Stemming from the forthcoming full length compilation Tokyo Calling 2, Studio Apt's & Blaze's signature sound can be heard on the original album version. Filled to the rim with gorgeous hooks, harmonies & infectious chorus, this put another notch in their extra long amazing tracklist. Here Blaze's vocal is complimented by DJ Spen's clubbier Muthafunkaz Sun Rising 12 Inch Edit. There's also a second version on the Muthafunkaz Soul Rising 12 Inch Edit. Both equally stunning. If that's not enough, Mr. V comes on board & pumps up this jam with the Sole Channel Main Mix; a dance floor effective original with hip-house word styling to bring more of an urban flavor to the mix. Also included is V's Sole Channel Dubstrumental Edit. Already a huge hit in Japan and being championed at Louie & Kevin's Roots party at Cielo, this will definitely be one for the songbooks. This one is set for release October 22nd.
